Doug first sent me an invitation a year ago January...January 6, 2000. I was dating another Christian Single Web guy at the time, but really was taken by Doug's profile and picture, so I answered him that although I couldn't meet, I would enjoy having a new Internet friend. We kept talking and talking.....on the internet, until somewhere around the end of March when he asked for my phone number and called me. His voice was so incredible; I was smitten. Of course, by that point, we had become very good friends, so we truly enjoyed the added form of communication. The email and phone calls continued until late May when we decided to meet. That was tricky, though, because I was just deciding to end the relationship with the other guy and he didn't take it too well.
Doug and I finally saw each other for the first time on June 6, 2000 when we made a lunch date (we never got around to eating lunch, but talked for two hours). We got together again that night at the Marriott on Eldridge at Katy Freeway (now the Omni) and had what would become one of our favorite drinks...a Margarita. We've been together ever since. Every month on the 6th, we go back to the same spot at that hotel and Doug kisses me (because it's also the first place he kissed me) and we have a Margarita. We haven't missed a 6th yet. That's also why we chose the 6th of April to get married. When we left the wedding reception at the church, we took our 5 children with us and had the limo driver drive us to the hotel for our kiss, before heading out to take the kids to a late-night breakfast at the I-HOP!
The 6th of any month is very special to us. Keep in mind that it was six months before we actually met in person....another *6* in our relationship. The part of Doug's profile that really caught my attention was when he said of himself, "I'm an incurable romantic"....he wasn't fibbing!!!!! I am also an incurable romantic....so you can imagine what our life is like together. It's a storybook romance, with a storybook wedding! And we will live happily ever after, because God is so good, gracious and loving.
